Can your roommates kick you out of the dorm because your gay? Can your roommates kick you out of a public universities dorm because they find out your gay? |
As far as I know, more than likely not. They can, however, request that they be transferred to another room. If your orientation makes them uncomfortable it puts you both in an awkward position.
You'd need to consult with a Resident Advisor or read about how your college addresses these types of issues. If your roommate does request to have you "kicked out" based on your orientation, that would be discriminating against who you are. If you two can't mediate the issue (if there is one) or resolve it, perhaps one of you should request a transfer. Good luck! |
Morally speaking... In a college dorm should gay men be put into rooms with men or women? Wouldn't that make straight men a little uncomfortable? Also, the reason we separate men and women is so they don't go at it. Aka have sex ya no. Well if they had 3 dorms female, male, gays. Wouldn't we have to worry about the gays going at it? |
| Oh God forbid anyone should have sex at college! Get a grip. Homosexual people do not fancy all people of the same gender, same as heterosexuals don't fancy all of the opposite. Neither are they any more likely to assault someone they are attracted to than a straight person so really this a non-issue. |
Gay dorm room conditions? I'm a gay male, and I only have a couple more years of high school left. Me and my friend, who is a girl, are planning on going to the same college and were wondering if we could dorm together?. Its private and not a university. Are there usually conditions where this can happen? |
| You can only share dorms if you are married but if you're gay, I'm sure you'd be miserable being married to a girl....so no, its not possible. I remember when I was in college, I shared a dorm room with another girl. I'm a lesbian and she's homophobic. She harassed me every single day telling me how God is so important and how I shouldn't be going down a path that's dangerous and unhealthy. I never said a word to her but after about 2 weeks of putting up with her crap, I just went to student services and I said, "I wanna be moved." and they almost refused until I told them my reason. You could always just SAY that you and her are married =) |
Is watching twighlight with a bunch of my shirtless dorm mates gay? We are all guys. Thats all that needs to be said |
No. If you all start making out, or touching each other sexually, then it will be gay.
But it's just shirtless guys watching a movie. Seriously, people need to know what being gay actually is.
I hope I helped. |
Gay guys - Would you rather share your college dorm with another gay guy or a straight guy? I'm gay, but if someone gave me a choice, I'd pick to room with the straight guy because I know there wouldn't be any sexual tension. And, it would be an opportunity to perhaps break down barriers that (generally) still exist between us and our straight peers.
I'm curious to see how other gay men respond to this. |
| Straight guy. I don't do very well with most gay people. I'm far too straight acting. |
Yaoi about gay dorm at school? i read a manga recently but can not remember the name, a boy transfers to a school and it turns out all of the people in the dorm are gay. when the guy first goes in his room there is a guy sleeping in his bed and kisses the new guy when he wakes up. thanks for any help u can give |

GAY COLLEGE DORM ROOMSSS? college dorm rooms ?
okay so im a seinor in high school and looking for colleges,
i dont really want to live at college because im bisexual ( in the closet ) except for one friend,
i wouldnt be able to bring my car D: i realllyyy want my car can i buy a parking space?
& i dont want a public bathroom. im a bit of a germaphobe.
do colleges have gay dorms? can i get my own dorm room and parking space as a freshman?
please and thanks. |
most uni's do not allow freshmen to have cars on campus...
if you have the rents that are willing to pay for a private room, you can usually get a private dorm room... |
Going to UCSB - should I live in a gay dorm or just a regular one? I can't seem to make this decision on my own, nor can any of my friends give me a legitimate answer. What I really want is a gay guy's opinion (of course anyone can answer, though!)
I'm 17, gay and really social and have many friends but have never been in a relationship with another guy in my life (I only know like 2 gay guys at my high school). So you could say I'm pretty lonely. Now, at SB I could live in a regular dorm or I could live in the Rainbow House with other gay people.
In college, I want to make a lot of friends, and I want some of them to be gay so I could have someone to relate with. I really want a boyfriend, too.
I think the housing application asks about your sexuality; should I say I'm gay (assuming I decide to live in a regular dorm), or will that put me with a straight person for sure? Do colleges put gay guys w/ other gay guys, in the regular dorms? What could be some negatives of living with 40 other gay guys? I don't really think I'd be "segregated," since I'd meet straight people in class, in the dorm lounges, facilities, the beach, parties, etc.
Basically, I need to know which of the two options would be best for me to be happiest in college. Any input would be really appreciated! |
Well, its kinda cool that they have a gay dorm, BUT, if you are a really social person to begin with, and there is a pretty strong LGBT community, is it really necessary to live IN it?
I feel that you'll have to deal with more drama in a gay dorm than a heterosexual dorm. That's just my honest gut feeling.
PLUS, think of it as a learning experience. To live in the straight world we live in, it might be beneficial to learn from living and dealing with straight people, more than it would to live with gay people. Some other answerer sounded like a fear mongerer. I lived in a frat and came out in it, and I NEVER had ANY problems with straight guys... being able to associate with them, and STILL be gay will help you out in the real world more, because a straight dorm would simulate the real world more. |
Two girls in our dorm pushed their beds together to make one big bed, are they gay? That seems sort of gay, especially during the first week of school. And yes, they do both sleep in the big bed, they just use different blankets. |
| My guess is that the dorm rooms aren't very big and the layout works better like that. Some women are much more emotionally connected to their friends than others and just because this would make you uncomfortable doesn't mean that they have the same concerns. If you feel a wee bit homophobic about these issues, this is probably the time to take a look around you and realize that people come in all shapes, sizes, colours and attractions, but they are all just people - some good and some bad. Make your friends based on their treatment of you, not anything else and remember that they will do the same. |
If i decide to dorm at FIT, what is the chance of me having a gay roomate? I know the girl to guy ratio is at that school is like 85% girls to 15% guys, and half of that 15% are gays. I'm straight, and i'm just wondering if anyone knows if this happens often at FIT, or other schools(straight guy having a gay roomate). And what would i do in a situation like this? |
It sounds like you have a 50% shot of ending up with a gay roommate. I would say the only way it wouldn't happen is if on their housing form they ask about sexual orientation.
If you end up with a gay roommate, you don't do anything differently. Being gay isn't catching, once he knows you're straight he's not going to try to turn you or anything like that. |
